This is one of the most scenic regions of Costa Rica, known for calm seas and transparent waters, allowing for swimming and snorkeling close to shore. You will take a boat to the reserve where your naturalist tour guide will introduce you to a variety of wildlife that thrives here, including up to 200 species of birds, capuchin and howler monkeys as well as sloths and anteaters. The reserve includes 3 miles of coastline with beautiful white- sand beaches and tiny coves. Although it is a small reserve, two thirds is preserved as primary forest. Please note : Wear light clothes, hat or visor, sunscreen, bug repellent, sun glasses, and very comfortable walking shoes. Suggest guests purchase bottled water on board. Bring your towel, wear your bathing suit underneath your clothes and there are two toilets at the main entrance as well as two showers. Along the route of your 80-minute boat tour you will be able to observe the most amazing varieties of birds, plus crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys and a beautiful ecosystem that is filled with extensive marshes that serve as home to many migratory birds coming from North and South America. Following your river tour you will delight your palate with a delicious homemade Costa Rican-style lunch, while immersing yourself into the authentic lifestyle of Guanacaste's "Sabaneros" and experiencing the ambiance of the beautiful Hacienda House, built in the 19th century and recently restored. You will see lovely views from the ample corridors as the savannahs and sugar cane fields extend before your eyes. Please note : All animals in this national park are wild animals. During this tour, you will sail aboard a beautiful catamaran through the waters of the Gulf of Papagayo , and discover its enchanting marine world: beautiful reefs, colorful and pristine beaches, dolphins, flying fish and other marine species that are only part of the spectacle you might witness during this adventure. You can even relax on the boat and sip delicious refreshing tropical drinks and snacks that are served by the crew as you simply enjoy and delight yourself with the amazing views of the ocean, the surrounding beaches and feel the marine breeze on your face. On arrival at Playa Heuvos there will be time to swim, snorkel or explore in the tranquil warm ocean. Please note : The catamaran is not wheelchair accessible. You'll have a 30-minute drive to the Congo Trail Private Reserve where your adventure will begin. A platform located at ground level will mark the beginning of your experience. Industry-approved, ultra-safe harness equipment and a network of steel cables that connect eight trees in the forest will be your road to excitement while you l earn the secrets of the dry forest. Gliding from tree to tree, you will have a birds-eye-view of the forest. The fauna is especially abundant here. Hundreds of different species of birds have been sighted, along with the howler monkey, many different snakes, coatis, and other mammals. At the end of the last cable, you will head back to earth and your ride back to your ship. Please note : This is a very active tour only recommended for guests who are in good physical condition. You arrive through a meandering country road, surrounded by a volcanic mountain range and a dwarf-forest, a rare habitat within the Costa Rican tropical dry forest. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a refreshing beverage. Your visit will start with a scenic guided walk on one of the main trails, including a hanging bridge. As part of the walk you will have the opportunity to enjoy the waters of this crystal-clear river. Once within the 500+ acre private reserve, you will be led into a canyon where a thermo-mineral river flows strong and trees grow 10 times taller than those on the parched earth above. The visit to Rivers of Joy Hot Springs and Spa, will not only give you the opportunity of enjoying the generous hot springs of "Rio Perdido" but the convergence with the "Rio Blanco" where you can enjoy the different pools temperatures that range from 90 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit, the spectacular views of the " Rincon de La Vieja Volcano " and the SPA for those who want to pamper their souls. There are thermal pools just next to the building where you can also enjoy the thermal waters. An authentic " Guanacaste" culinary experience will be served for lunch at the main restaurant.
